User Experience practitioner with over 16 years interactive experience in e-learning, advertising, financial, automotive, travel and e-commerce. I believe in a strong user-centered design approach with the user’s goals, pain points and aspirations at the heart of every step in the product life cycle.
It all starts with understanding. From the the business side it’s understanding what they’re trying to accomplish not just in the short run but how it fits into the company’s long term goals. What does success looks like? What is the timeline and constraints?
From the user side, it understanding their needs, goals and frustrations. What is it about their current solution that isn’t meeting their needs? In what context will they be using this new product or feature? Do we have any data either quantitative or qualitative to assist us in this learning? Is there additional data we’ll need to collect?
With knowledge of what we are building, who we are building it for and our end goal in place we can move on to ideation. Ideation takes place in the form of rapid sketching with the team in order to get to the best possible solution quickly. With multiple eyes and expertise in the room, flaws can be identified early.
When the best solution has been identified, flows, wireframes or comps are created and a quick testable prototype is developed.
Finally the prototype is tested with actual users to see if our solution hit the mark. What worked well? Where did it fall short? With our learnings we can ideate and refine our solution.
